Croatia has been quite the hot spot to travel to over the last few years. It’s on bucket lists for many of my friends. I think it’s the diversity of the country that is so appealing to so many. Rugged mountain landscapes and beautiful long stretches of coastal scenery tempt travelers of all kinds!

Of course I can’t wait to taste the local cuisine washed down with some of Croatia’s famous wines. And to learn about history through the heart and soul (and stomach) of a country is really when you learn the most about the up’s and down’s of a nation. Stick around and learn more with me as I go!

Until then, check out these highlights:

  • The national flower of Croatia is the Iris
  • The marten is the national animal of Croatia
  • Croatia officially joined the European Union as the 28th member on July 1, 2013. As of 2017, they still have not been accepted to use the Euro and continue to use their own currency, the Croatian Kuna. ($1 USD = 6.25 Kuna).
  • There are nearly more Croatians living outside Croatia as there is within the country.
  • There are over 41,000 vineyards and winemakers producing the nectar of the God’s in Croatia! Come thirsty!
  • DNA tests have proven that the yummy Zinfandel grape variety originates from Croatia.
  • Croatian men are the 7th tallest on the planet!
  • There are over 1,100 islands in Croatia yet only 47 of them are inhabited. Some with only a few families!
  • The most popular sports in Croatia are football, basketball, handball and water polo

I had an amazing time exploring Croatia, read about my travels below!
